OrbusVR Holds Successful Pre-Alpha Test, Launches Kickstarter Campaign to Boost Development

Overland Park, Kan. – Ad Alternum Game Studios today announced the successful results of the latest OrbusVR pre-Alpha test, which was held February 23rd. More than 700 players took part, playing a collective 600 hours during the short ten hour test period.

“It was incredible to see so many passionate supporters of our work take part,” said Riley Dutton, Founder of Ad Alternum. “Although we had a few bugs during the first part of the test, we were able to get those worked out and by the second half we had stable servers and around 100 simultaneous players adventuring throughout the virtual world.”

OrbusVR is the first MMORPG developed exclusively for room-scale virtual reality systems, including the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. It has been in development since early 2016, and the team has hosted three pre-Alpha stress tests while developing the game alongside input from the community. It can support thousands of players, including 100 in the same area, a first for an online VR experience.

Robert Dutton, level designer on the project, was impressed by the global diversity in the player base. “Hearing everyone speaking different languages but all working toward the same goal was amazing,” he said.

In addition to the successful completion of the test, Ad Alternum will now launch a Kickstarter campaign to aid in funding the game’s final development push toward release.

Riley Dutton previously co-founded Roll20, an online tabletop gaming platform that began on Kickstarter and grew to more than two million players. He said, “We’ve heard from many members of our community who want to take part in supporting the game’s development, so we decided to do a Kickstarter campaign for those who want to get involved.”

Rewards for the campaign include Founder packs with in-game items at launch, Alpha and Beta test access, a permit to allow players to run their own in-game Market Stall, and even the opportunity to be immortalized forever in the game’s world as a statue.

The Kickstarter campaign begins March 6th, 2017 at 10 AM CST, and will run for only seven days, ending on March 13th. The goal of the campaign is to raise $10,000 to further fund development on the project.

“Although $10,000 is not nearly enough to fully fund a game of this size, especially an MMORPG, we’re looking to augment our existing investment,” said Dutton. “More than $50,000 has been spent to bring the game this far, and I will continue to invest my own money alongside the community until the game is complete.”

Ad Alternum is a new game studio founded with the goal of pushing the boundaries of virtual reality gaming. Our flagship project is OrbusVR, the first MMORPG designed to take full advantage of room-scale VR. OrbusVR will enter Alpha in April 2017, with an expected release into Early Access in Q4 2017.

  1. Honestly, the latest stress test was a lot of fun. One of the best VR gaming experiences I have had since i got the Vive last May.
